Research Committee 11 Sociology of Aging of the International Sociological Association

What is RC11?

The Research Committee on Aging (RC 11) is one of 55 Research Committees of the International Sociological Association (ISA). The on-going scientific activities of the ISA are decentralised in these Research Committees, with each addressing a specific area in sociology. Within ISA, Research Committees constitute basic networks of scientific research, intellectual debate and professional exchange,  linking scholars who wish to pursue comparative research in a substantive area (such as ageing) on a transnational basis.

The purpose of the Research Committee on Ageing is to encourage research of high quality on ageing within and between countries. While RC 11 develops its own programme of activities and scholarly presentations at meetings of the ISA and at special Inter-Congress meetings, it also collaborates with other RCs in related areas, such as RC10 (Social Participation), RC13 (Leisure), RC15 (Health), RC19 (Social Policy), RC30 (Work), and RC55 (Social Indicators).
